Climate conditions and crowd levels for each month of the year.
Tbilisi in January is cold and quiet. Highs sit around 6°C (44°F) and nights touch 0°C (32°F) or dip below. Rainfall is at its annual minimum, only about 15mm. The city feels damp rather than crisp. Valley fog can settle in for days at a stretch. Crowds are low. This suits anyone who wants the old town to themselves.
Temperatures barely move from January. Highs creep to 8°C (47°F), lows still at 0°C (32°F). There's a sense by mid-month that winter is beginning to loosen its grip. Rainfall ticks up slightly to around 18mm. The sulfur bath neighborhood feels atmospheric rather than touristy. The occasional sunny afternoon can feel like a genuine reward after the grey weeks preceding it.
Spring begins tentatively. Highs reach 13°C (55°F) and lows sit around 4°C (39°F). Rainfall climbs to 28mm. The first green appears on the hillsides above the old town. Crowds are still minimal. The days are noticeably lengthening and Tbilisi starts to feel alive again. A light jacket and a layer underneath will carry you through most of the day comfortably.
Tbilisi warms meaningfully in April. Highs sit around 18°C (65°F) and lows settle at 8°C (47°F). Rainfall jumps to 64mm, mostly arriving as afternoon showers. Mornings are often clear and beautiful while afternoons can turn wet fast. The city begins filling with visitors toward the end of the month. Cherry blossoms appear in Vake Park if the timing cooperates.
One of Tbilisi's finest months. Highs sit around 23°C (74°F), lows at 13°C (55°F). Long evenings reward wandering through Sololaki or up to the Narikala walls for sunset. It's also the wettest month of the year at around 84mm. Afternoon thunderstorms become a rhythm you start to anticipate and plan around. Crowds move from medium toward high as the month progresses.
The heat arrives properly in June. Highs hit 28°C (83°F), lows around 17°C (63°F). Rainfall holds at the same level as May, 84mm, meaning the thunderstorm pattern continues through the month. The combination of warmth and occasional downpour makes for lush surroundings on the surrounding hillsides. The evenings are long enough to be out well after dark. Tbilisi's terrace culture is in full swing.
July hits hardest. Highs reach 31°C (88°F), lows settle near 20°C (68°F), and 70% humidity clings to everything. The 41mm rainfall is drier than June, so sun is more dependable. But midday walking? Uncomfortable. Mornings and evenings are your windows. Afternoons belong in wine bars or church coolness.
August mirrors July. Same highs of 31°C (89°F), same lows at 20°C (68°F), same 41mm rainfall. Late August hints at easing. The crowds stay thick. Heat-sensitive travelers will struggle. Warm nights save this month. Rooftop terraces work here.
September brings relief. Highs fall to 26°C (79°F), lows to 15°C (60°F), rainfall drops to 36mm. This is prime Tbilisi time. Heat softens. Crowds thin. The light turns golden, perfect against terracotta and limestone. Kakheti's harvest adds reason to travel.
October deserves more credit. Highs near 20°C (68°F), lows at 11°C (51°F), rainfall rises to 46mm. But rain rarely owns the day here. Walk the Mtkvari banks. Watch Mtatsminda turn. The old city breathes easier without summer crowds.
November turns grey. Highs of 12°C (54°F), lows at 4°C (39°F), 33mm of drizzle rather than storms. Some venues close. Hours shrink. The indoor culture shines now. Wine bars, sulfur baths, churches. These spaces welcome you best.
December is winter. Highs of 8°C (46°F), lows at 1°C (34°F), occasional snow dusting the old town. Pretty, not problematic. Rainfall stays modest at 20mm. Orthodox Christmas preparations give local flavor. Crowds stay low outside New Year.
